'Vibrant' school is praised by Ofsted
PUPILS and staff at a Derby infants' school are celebrating after being rated "outstanding" for the second time in three years.
Inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education praised Alvaston Infant School in a newly-released report.
They were impressed by the "vibrant, stimulating and challenging atmosphere of the school" and the "effectiveness of the head teacher, governors and senior management".
The Elvaston Lane school is bucking a trend in the south-east area of the city for schools to be placed in special measures.
This has recently happened to Moorhead Primary, in Brackens Lane, Alvaston, and Allenton Community Primary.
Boulton Primary, in Wyndham Street, Alvaston, together with Moorhead, Allenton, Sinfin Primary and Pear Tree Junior schools, have also been included in a Government list of five schools which have failed to reach floor targets in tests for 11-year-olds.
Jean Walden, head teacher at Alvaston infants, said that she wanted people to know that the suburb is capable of doing well. She said: "All our staff work together to secure the best outcomes for the children."

“Well done Alvaston Infants. You all work so hard and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Its a pity however, that Alvaston Juniors next door don't take a leaf out of your book!”
