THE daughter of a man with Parkinson's disease is to take part in an inaugural Derbyshire sponsored walk to raise money for research into the condition.

Deborah Fern, 36, of Leawood Gardens, Oakwood, aims to complete the Parkinson's Disease Society's Hardwick Hall Walk on Sunday, April 25, along with her mum.

Ms Fern said: "When I saw the walk advertised I thought this would be a fantastic way to help raise funds for the Parkinson's Disease Society and at the same time raise awareness about the condition."

The walk is a nine-mile circular route and starts and finishes at Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire. Walkers will walk along the Rowthorne and Teversal trails, across fields and through the Hardwick Estate.

Regional fund-raiser Jessica Storer said: "It is fantastic that Deborah and her mother are taking part. We really need to make people aware there are around 8,700 people with Parkinson's in the East Midlands and an estimated 1,424 of these people live in Derbyshire."

Entry fees are £15 per adult and £7 per child under 16, all entrants will receive a T-shirt and a finisher's medal on the day of the event.

Anyone wishing to take part should contact 0844 225 9832, e-mail rf.eastmids@parkin sons.org.uk or download an entry form from www.parkin sons.org.uk/eastmidlands
