GRAHAM Wagg has given his answer to other counties keen to lure him away from the County Ground by signing an extension to his contract with Derbyshire.

Warwickshire, who have upset several counties this season with their underhand attempts to pinch players, have made it known that they would like the 25-year-old all-rounder to return to the club where he began his career.

Wagg is believed to have been told that his England ambitions would be furthered if he went to Edgbaston but the player has repaid the faith Derbyshire showed in him when they gave him his chance to return to county cricket in 2006.

He already had a year on his Derbyshire contract to run but has now extended that for a further year, until the end of 2010, and says his decision simply came down to being happy at the County Ground.

"There have been rumours around about me going to other counties, whether it's for my England career or whatever," said Wagg.

"It's nice that other counties look at you. It does put a lot of pressure on the club and on myself for contracts but I talked to a lot of people and what it came down to was that I'm enjoying my cricket and I'm happy at Derby.

"I've got family on the way and I'm set up for life here now.

"If I wasn't happy here, I wouldn't have signed an extension.

"I've seen improvements already in my three years. Derby was always one of the places where nobody wanted to go but that's changed because things are moving in the right direction.

"Some of our cricket has been great this year.

"We've got a great team and we just need to build on that to be well on the road."

Wagg has had an excellent season for Derbyshire in both forms of the game. He is their leading wicket-taker in first-class and one-day matches and, prior to the start of the final Championship match of the season at Leicester tomorrow (10.30am), has completed the all-rounder's double of more than 500 runs and 50 wickets in first-class cricket for a second year in succession.

With performances like that, Wagg believes England will come knocking no matter which club he plays for.

"It doesn't really matter where you are if you perform year in, year out," he added.

"This is two years in a row now and if I perform consistently, the England selectors are going to take notice.

"Warwickshire is a great club and a Test match arena and if I wasn't happy here, maybe I would go back there. But as long as I keep enjoying my cricket at Derby, I'll stay for as long as possible."
