POLICE are warning people not to approach a "violent and dangerous man" who has gone on the run.

A £1,000 reward has been put up for information that leads to the arrest of Wayne Green, who is also known as Stephen Cross.

In a joint operation, 60 police officers from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire yesterday raided seven addresses in and around Long Eaton to try to find the 41-year-old.

Green is wanted for allegedly breaching a violent offender order that was imposed when he was released from prison in August 2010.

At the time the order was the first of its kind in Derbyshire.

It was granted to prevent Green from approaching or contacting a number of named individuals, as well as restricting him from entering Long Eaton.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Slack, from Derbyshire police, said: "This individual has a history of violent offences and I would ask people not to approach him if they see him.

"His violent offenders order was put in place to protect a number of individuals and these orders are not granted loosely.

"He is a dangerous man and we are keen to trace him as quickly as possible."

The order lasts for five years and was imposed at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court after Green was released from prison where he served a five-year term for a serious assault.

He could be fined or jailed if found to have breached the order.

During yesterday's raids two women, aged 59 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A man was also arrested on suspicion of cannabis production.

Crimestoppers has put up the £1,000 reward.

Mr Slack said: "This man poses a serious danger to people."

Green, of no fixed address, is also wanted by police in Nottinghamshire on suspicion of burglary and theft at a property in Zouch in July last year, the theft of a vehicle in Normanton in October, a series of assaults, also in October and criminal damage to two vehicles on November 4.

He was last known to be in the Beeston Rylands area of Nottinghamshire, but police believe he may now be in Derbyshire.

He is white, 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build.

He is also bald with a goatee-style beard and a tattoo on his left arm.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Green should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
