Warning to drivers as freezing rain and snow forecast for Derbyshire
Freezing rain is forecast for Derbyshire today.
Derbyshire County Council's gritters started treating secondary routes at 8am this morning and will then switch to primary routes.
A spokesman for the authority said: "We will work round the clock while the adverse weather conditions continue. The amount of grit put down has been increased.
"Freezing rain is difficult to combat as it settles as ice over the top of grit, making the grit less effective. Drivers and pedestrians are warned to take extra care."
The forecast is that the freezing rain will turn to snow with 2-5cm forecast for lower ground and 5-10cm for higher ground.

“@ B_o_b1
Didn't know there were bin collections at the weekend.
I repeat, on Tuesday, the blue bins here were not emptied. On previous occasions, bins on surrounding roads have been emptied during wintry conditions, but not ours.
The snow fell at the weekend, the roads were bad then. Why wasn't our road gritted by Tuesday? Why weren't the blue bins emptied? It didn't snow yesterday, there was barely a frost. Bin still not emptied, more snow forecast, still no grit.
Can I request a council tax rebate or claim expenses for taking my own rubbish to the nearest council recycling point?
More important - have you sufficient supplies to ensure you're fed and watered during the predicted 24 hour snow-in?”

“"There'll be selective refuse collections again then"?
Again?
Was anyone missed after the snow that fell at the weekend?
I know we weren't.”

“There'll be selective refuse collections again then. We don't get gritted in this part of Mickleover, although we pay council tax etc like most other people. We don't always get our bins emptied either.
On Tuesday, the snow was still lying, but old and young alike managed to put the brown bins, blue bins and ORANGE BAGS in place. Orange bags were emptied first, then the brown bins, but mysteriously, not the blue bins - they're still lining the pavement.
Without dashing off to shop as though we're under siege, I have bought some extra torch batteries in case of power cuts and checked to see if any neighbours need medicines or prescriptions fetching.
Woolly hat and socks at the ready!”

“You already know that the country will now grind to a halt later on this evening. I'd better nip out to Asda to stock up on essentials.”
