Wassall: Derby County youngsters did the club proud in FA Youth Cup defeat by Chelsea
DARREN Wassall felt his Derby County side could not have given any more in their FA Youth Cup quarter-final defeat to holders Chelsea.
The young Rams were beaten 2-1 at Pride Park Stadium last night, cheered on by a bumper crowd of 4,188.
"The boys did themselves and the club proud," said Academy manager Wassall. "They couldn't have given any more.
"There was a spell in the second half, after we equalised, when I thought Chelsea were rocking.

"That was our chance to go and win the game but, unfortunately, we couldn't.
"However, you've got to give credit to Chelsea."
The Rams, who hit the woodwork three times, were given a warm ovation from the fans at the final whistle.
"The crowd were fantastic and I thought we gave a good account of ourselves," Wassall added. "We showed a lot of energy, character and no little skill. We proved we can compete against the very best at this level."
