HUNDREDS of homes were left without water after a mains burst in Matlock.

About 1,600 properties were affected by the incident, which happened in Smedley Street, Matlock, today at about 8.30am.

Technicians from water company Severn Trent were sent to fix the problem at about 9.45am.

Pipes in Woolley Road will also need replacing and the road is not expected to re-open until tomorrow.
