Water rescue team and RSPCA help cat and dog to safety
A CAT with a heart condition and a rescue dog from Sri Lanka have been freed from a house where they were trapped in the floods.
Sandra Noon lives in Milton and became unable to get to her home in Meadow Lane after the River Trent burst its banks when she was away on Sunday.

Ms Noon had to stay locally with her parents but attempted to get back to her house on Monday morning, donning wellies and waterproofs.
She was worried about her pets – a 14-year-old cat called Coco, which needs medicine twice a day, and nine-year-old dog Little Bo.

Ms Noon said of the floods: "It was incredible. There was such a strong current.
"A refuse lorry was trying to get down to collect the bins and the staff gave me a lift some of the way down but the water became too strong even for them, so they had to reverse back. I didn't know what to do, so I called the fire service, the police and the RSPCA.
"I told them that I was going to wade my way down as I had no other choice. It was so horrible, standing at the top of the road, so helpless."
It was then that Ms Noon got a call from the Water Safe UK Search and Rescue team.
She said: "I don't know how they found out I needed them but they called and told me they'd be there in 30 minutes. I also got a call from Simon Parker, an RSPCA inspector, and he said he'd come. I can't think them enough."
The water rescue teams inflated a dingy for Ms Noon and Mr Parker.
Ms Noon said: "My house wasn't flooded because it's on a slight mound – but it's not that I was worried about.
"My cat needs to take lots of medication every day to stop his heart failing and he had already missed two of his doses. I couldn't have just stood waiting for him to die, and Little Bo is my cross-breed Sri Lankan rescue dog. They're both my life; I couldn't let anything happen to them.
"The water rescue team volunteers were so professional in the way they dealt with the whole situation. I want people to be aware of these people and the amazing work they do. They saved Coco's life."

“A good job it wasn't the RSPCA that picked up these animals then. On current form they would have received a lethal injection before they even arrived back at the office.”

“So it was the water rescue team who did the work and the RSPCA tagged along for the trip and the publicity. Why are they allowed to get in the way and get away with such self promotion?”
