Weekend date to clean up attack-victim Oink's field
PLANS to clean up the field of Derby's famous water buffalo,
Oink, are expected to go ahead this weekend.
-

The work was originally due to happen last weekend but was
postponed because a suitable holding pen for Oink had not been
built.
But the pen is now being installed on Saturday by Derwent
Scaffolding, which will then allow for the maintenance work in
Oink's field to go ahead on Sunday.
Members of the public will be able to help in the clean-up
operation by trimming hedges, removing weeds and filling in
potholes. Volunteers will need to provide their own
equipment.
The Evening Telegraph reported earlier this month that Oink
had been attacked by yobs, who threw bricks at him and set fire
to the hay in his field, in Haslam's Lane, Darley Abbey.
The 15-year-old water buffalo has since become an internet
star, with messages of support coming from as far away as
America.
CCTV equipment has been installed in Oink's field and an
American artist has even designed a range of Oink-themed
T-shirts.
Anyone wanting to join the clean-up, which is expected to
start at 11am, can contact Katherine Moore, on 552545.
