A FORMER footballer renowned for a goal he scored at Wembley has spoken of his joy after climbing the tallest mountain in Africa.

Nick Wright was part of a 40-man team which scaled Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, in an attempt to raise £250,000 for cancer charities.

He played for Derby County as a trainee but scored for Watford in their 2-0 Division One play-off victory over Bolton at Wembley in 1999.

Mr Wright's climb was in aid of the Ellis Harriet Clark Foundation and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The 33-year-old, of Alfreton Road, Codnor, raised £3,000 individually and said: "The climb went really well and there were some incredible moments."
