A DERBY junction is to be closed to stop it being used as a "rat-run".

Roadworks start on Monday to shut the turning at Melbourne Street and Osmaston Road.

It follows a consultation with local people. Almost four in five who replied were in favour of closing it to stop drivers using it as a short cut to Normanton Road.

Councillor Chris Poulter, city council cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "The closure of the Melbourne Street junction will put an end to one of the city's worst rat-runs."
