Not every breakfast TV viewer is stupid and lazy
I FIND Anton Rippon's column "Happy 30th, breakfast TV, even though I've never watched you" (January 16), particularly offensive. He's basically saying, anyone who watches breakfast telly is stupid and lazy.
I watch BBC Breakfast just for the news. Admittedly, now I sometimes just watch the news channel. I am not stupid or lazy. I am disabled through a serious traffic accident.
When I was working, I didn't watch telly or listen to radio – just got up, grabbed a flask of coffee and waited for my life. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than watch the soaps. I listen to Radio Derby till about 9pm at night. I wouldn't assume all people who watch soaps are fools, though – I'm not that narrow minded. Unless I'm so stupid I totally misread Anton's column.

“And as I also said: "It wasn't a misguided belief that I was intelligent that prevented me from tuning-in. Just that I already had enough distractions while getting ready for work. I didn't need any more."
I'm afraid that CM Stone did indeed misread my column that day.”

“Anton was presenting a view:
"Writing in The Spectator, Richard Ingrams said: "There is no earthly reason why anyone of intelligence should want to watch it." Two weeks later, the rival TV-am went on air and was saved from financial ruin only when Greg Dyke hired a puppet – Roland Rat – to read the news. So Ingrams might have had a point."
Some people would have a negative perception of some programmes I watch - but I do not take offence.”
