NICKY'S in Osmaston Road, Derby, has re-launched itself with a greater focus on its most popular dish – delicious fresh fish brought in daily from Grimsby.

Owners Nicky and Flora Piponidou have served quality line-caught fish and chips to Derby folk for more than 30 years now and, though many customers still like the fish served traditionally with chips and peas, Nicky's is very flexible and willing to cater for all tastes.

"We have always prided ourselves in offering fish and chips with a twist," Flora says.

"Most customers prefer haddock, cod and plaice but we also cater for wider tastes by offering a choice of sea bass, salmon, dover sole, prawns, calamari and crab."

Diners can opt for their fish to be battered, grilled or pan fried and, if they prefer, served with creamy mash and vegetables or even pasta. Those who really love seafood are also catered for with a seafood platter consisting of fish, scampi, calamari, prawns, salad and chips.

Nicky's opened as a takeaway shop in the 1970s. During the 1990s, a sit-down restaurant was added, named Nicky's Lounge. Nicky and Flora also expanded their menu to include a variety of Greek meals and British roasts.

Flora says: "We now have decided to call ourselves simply Nicky's and, although we will still be offering daily roasts and traditional Greek food, there will be a greater emphasis on the fish menu."

The couple are also planning to continue their monthly Greek nights which feature traditional live music, dancing and food.
