Earlier this month, the Derby Telegraph reported how new road safety measures had failed to prevent accidents along Manor Road – with 31 crashes reported over the past nine months.
The news came after Derby City Council spent tens of thousands of pounds making a number of alterations to the road layout in an attempt to make it safer.
But accidents continued – and neighbours said the changes had actually made the stretch more dangerous.
The incidents added to the 70-odd crashes which residents claim took place along the road between 2005 and 2011.

“Or modeller, you could look where you going, drive at an appropriate speed and look ahead
The junction is perfectly visable, car don't just suddenly appear out of nowhere”

“I had a near miss a couple of days ago travelling from Uttoxeter Road lights towards Burton Road when a car pulled out of St Albans Road directly in front of me. Something has to be done at that junction, possibly making St Albans Road one way from Manor Road or making the exit from St Albans Road onto Manor Road more visible?”

“What you need is a traffic management team in the council who know exactly what they are doing. Reason I say this is because I have had dealings with them and they are on another planet. They do not comprehend what residents face on a daily basis and talk a good game but when it comes down to it do absolutely nothing until - wait for it - someone is killed. Sorry to be blunt but that's what they work on and it is ludicrious. Accidents will happen but when you have a council department who are inept and do not really care when it comes down to it then this blackspot will remain.”

“Was one vehicle coming down the hill on the Argosy side - cars do tend to be doing 40 at top of hill and 50 by bottom. Or at least it seems that way - perhaps a Speed Indicator and recorder there would be informative.
Just cos it is handy for Casualty isn't a good reason to risk soemone getting seriously hurt ..”
