How can council put art before abuse victims?
THE Derby Telegraph of January 15 carried the story "Safe houses for abuse victims facing closure due to city cuts". The city's strategic director for adults is quoted as saying that the housing related support services are valuable but not mandatory.
The same edition also carries the story about a £50,000 scheme for artwork on Derby's ring road.
Has the council got its priorities wrong? Roadside art before domestic abuse victims? A reappraisal is required.

“This is typical of how the council prioritise budgets. Spend on street art whilst cutting essential services and then to install it on a road which has numerous accidents recorded on it, what more needs saying. it is bad enough already on the road with all the superfluous signs (some advising of a new road layout 18 months after it has been completed) and other distractions without having people look and ponder works of art. Only in Derby under Labour would we see this happen when they keep bleating on about budget cuts and harsh decisions to be made all the time blaming the opposition in the hope of distracting from the truth that they are incompetent at running this council or setting budgets, this one is simple to answer no to this project.”
