Barnaby's big day

Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 08:00

THREE Ticknall under-10s have been making their mark with the Derbyshire age group side – including nine-year-old Barnaby Harrison, who is the first pupil of Grace Dieu Manor Prep School, near Ashby, to be selected in over a decade.

The school's deputy headmaster is former county batsman Tony Borrington and Harrison, an aspiring wicketkeeper, was invited along to take part in a training session with the Derbyshire team, meeting his professional counterpart, Jamie Pipe (pictured right).

Harrison captained the county's under-10s away to Buckinghamshire in their latest match and, although they lost, made the top score, 16.

His two Ticknall junior system team-mates on the day were Callan Harvey and Richard Brown, both also aged nine.
