ROLLS-ROYCE are the new leaders of Abbey Glass Division One after victory over Stainsby Hall saw them leapfrog their opponents at the top of the table.

Royces claimed 22 points from their comfortable eight-wicket win, maintaining their unbeaten record.

Visitors Stainsby batted first and could only muster 200-8 from their 50 overs.

Sherrick Chavda (46) and Tom White (44) were the main contributors with the bat.

But their efforts were ultimately in vain as the home side cruised past the target with more than 12 overs to spare.

Arfan Fazal top-scored with an unbeaten 76, while Mohammed Waseem (59*) and Muhammad Sultan (58) provided excellent support.

Third-placed Aston-on-Trent closed in on Stainsby with a comprehensive 10-wicket success away to Nutbrook.

The hosts were skittled out for just 103 in 34.4 overs, with Shahid Khan (4-27) and Atiq Rehman (3-35) doing much of the damage.

Aston needed only 25 overs to secure victory without loss, thanks to new signing Omar Yussean (56*) and Mohammed Azad (35*).

Swarkestone went down a place to fourth after they had to hold on for a losing draw at home to Matlock.

South African Mandla Mashimbyi smashed 128 as Matlock amassed 289-9 from their 50 overs.

Josh Mierkalns (84) and Steve Pell (40) were also among the runs, while David Dixon (4-51) and Michael Scott (3-52) were the pick of the Swarkestone bowlers.

Luke Thomas hit 60 after tea, accompanied by solid knocks from Scott (35) and James Wilcox (33) but Swarkestone closed well short of the target on 210-8.

Adam Burton led the attack for the visitors, taking 4-51.

The closest match of the weekend saw Rolleston beat hosts Clifton by six runs at Chapel Lane.

Batting first, the East Staffordshire side posted 228-8, with half-centuries from Michael James (58) and Paul Allen (59). Steve Bembridge took 3-57.

In reply, Riffatullah Mohmand struck an impressive 130 but it was not quite enough for Clifton as Rizwan Akbar (4-66) and Graham Dent (4-69) helped bowl them out for 222.

Bottom club Shipley Hall racked up 336-4 as they got the better of their draw with Staveley Welfare.

Skipper James Cokayne scored a magnificent 172 not out in the second half of the innings, smashing 13 sixes and 12 fours.

Opener Stefan Gamble had laid the foundations with 71.

After tea, Staveley never looked like threatening the total and they finished on 214-8.

Chris Bullimore top-scored with 78 and Liam Douglas was unbeaten on 31.

Graham Farnsworth (4-41) and Josh Buckley (3-82) were the pick of the bowlers.

Australian Daniel Watson struck 118 as Marehay claimed a winning draw at home to Denby.

Adrian Vickerage also chipped in with 52 as the hosts reached 268-6.

This proved out of Denby's reach as they closed on 183-7.
