Flasher targeted girls walking to top private school

Monday, February 01, 2010, 07:30

A COMPUTER worker has pleaded guilty to indecently exposing himself to schoolgirls on three consecutive days.

Peter Binks, 45, of Church Lane, Darley Abbey, committed the acts near a top private girls' school in London.

He pleaded guilty at City of London Magistrates' Court to intentionally exposing himself, intending that someone would be caused alarm or distress on December 9, 10 and 11, last year, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.

Binks was on a short-term work contract in the City of London when he flashed at the girls, aged between 11 and 15.

Prosecutor Alexa Morgan told the court that first-time offender Binks was twice seen exposing himself to girls walking to school. On the third day, police were called and Binks was arrested.

He has been committed to the Old Bailey for sentencing because the six months' maximum jail term that magistrates can impose was deemed insufficient. Bench chairwoman Dr Carolyn Greenwood said: "You have offences on three consecutive days targeting young girls near a school. That is a serious course of conduct."

Binks was bailed on condition he does not go within 400 metres of the school or attend any location where it can be viewed.

Darley Abbey village is a short distance from the busy A6 just north of Derby. It is a village of restored mill cottages, built in rows or around squares. It was originally an Augustinian priory, founded by Robert Ferrers, second Earl of Derby, around 1146. The Abbey became one of the most important in Derbyshire, but was surrendered as part of the Dissolution of Monastries, in 1538, and almost totally obliterated.
