GREG SIGNS A TWO-YEAR DEAL

Thursday, July 17, 2008, 07:30

DERBYSHIRE all-rounder Greg Smith has signed a new two-year contract with the county.

The 25-year-old former South Africa youth international has missed much of the current first-class campaign through injury but returned in the Twenty20 Cup and was one of only five players to score a century in the tournament.

Smith is Johannesburg born and he began his first-class career with Griqualand West before moving to England to further his career in 2004. Having now completed the residency period, he is expected to be granted British citizenship this year.

He celebrated his new deal with a half-century in Derbyshire's Championship match against Northants yesterday.
