Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:06

Chris Rogers carried on where he left off at Northampton with 101 for Derbyshire at the beginning of their three-day match against Bangladesh A at the County Ground today.

They declared on 298-6 after winning the toss. John Sadler completed his maiden half-century for the county but was out for 50 in the penultimate over before the tea interval.

Dan Birch made 40 before he was caught by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim down the leg side off Dolar Mahmood on 80-1.

Opening partner Paul Borrington followed five overs later for 25 when he was lbw to left-arm spinner Musharraf Hossain and Greg Smith was caught behind for 19 off Musharraf at 120-3.

Rogers and Sadler added 123 for the fourth wicket in 29 overs with the Australian in particularly sparkling form, reaching his 50 off 85 balls with six fours and a six.

Sadler completed his half-century off 94 balls with five fours and a six but later in the same over looped a catch to Mushfiqur off the bat-pad trying to sweep Musharraf.

Rogers brought up his century off 142 balls with 10 fours and two sixes but was out next ball when he top-edged a pull at Rubel Hossain and was caught by Mushfiqur.

When Tom Poynton was caught at slip off Shakib Al Hasan, Derbyshire immediately declared, with Jake Needham 30 not out.

Kevin Dean struck twice to leave the Bangladeshis 12-2 but they recovered to 46-2 at the close.
