“Only in the fact that the traceability of the food chain is obviously not stringent enough to prevent this sort of contamination. I am not bothered that its horse DNA per se, rather that the food is not what it is supposed to be. The rules came in after the BSE issue - that is what is worrying, that dangerous sources of foods can get into products on the shelves.”

“Not a suprise. Some companies resource their fillings from dubious places, who in turn get their meat from even more dubious places. Hence we have Desert Orchid burgers. This sort of thing happens alot but isn't noticed...
I recall Trading Standards in Derby went out last year & tested pizza toppings. Off the 20 or so outlets selling ham on their pizzas only about 3 or 4 actually contained ham ( ie from a pig ). What outcome I hear you ask ? Letters of warning / nobody prosecuted. Have they been out again to follow up ? No they haven't... for reasons you can quickly work out this little scam involves a certain sector of the community. So they could be seen as targeting a particular group. Hence no action.
So be careful what you eat - otherwise close your eyes & don't dwell on the Black Beauty factor”

“If you buy such products then you reap what you sow. Iceland is home to the Doner Kebab Pizza for crying out loud, a bit of horse DNA (which could be from semen) is not going to be any worse.
That people buy such processed rubbish is what this story should really be about. Wake up people.”

“Can't really blame Tesco for trying to make a fast buck
Its the people on their meat counters I feel sorry for, they must feel like their trying to flog a dead horse somedays
Personally I always prefered Asda burgers as my Lidl pony burger gave me the trotts
although I did always think the Tesco ones where good - good to soft in places
Hamburgers, an anagram of Shergar Bum
There you go, I got them all out in one go so these Horse meat jokes need not go on furlong now”

“Well, i'm not worried because I don't eat this rubbish anyway I make my own, but I can't see what all the fuss is about, they eat horse meat in France, we may find it disgusting, but people from other countries think it's disgusting that we eat pig. At the end of the day it's all meat after all.”

“It doesn't really bother me as it hasn't had any bad effects on anyone and it isn't dangerous to eat. Subsequently, I think it is wrong that so many shops lied about the content of their food. Personally, I don't think I would eat it now as I know what is in it, which kind of puts me off.”

“Traces of horse meat have been found in burgers on sale in some of the UK and Ireland’s busiest supermarkets, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said.
Scientific tests on beef products sold in Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Iceland and Dunnes Stores uncovered low levels of the animal’s DNA.
A total of 27 products were tested, with 10 of them containing horse DNA and 23 pig DNA.
Does this bother you?”
