A DYING man is to confront Prime Minister Gordon Brown today to ask him what he plans to do about ensuring people with his asbestos-related illness are paid compensation.

Former joiner Bernard Dean was diagnosed with mesothelioma in January this year.

The disease, a legacy of Derbyshire's industrial past, is always fatal, has no known cure and sufferers typically live between 18 months and three years.

Mr Dean, 60, of Sandiacre, is one of seven Derby Telegraph readers who will get the chance to grill the PM on key subjects that affect Derbyshire at a specially-arranged meeting.

Mr Dean said: "Gordon Brown lost a friend to mesothelioma earlier this year. I want him to tell me what he is going to do about insurance companies who are trying to get out of paying compensation."
