The Animals are still on the loose after 40 years

Saturday, October 17, 2009, 07:30

AFTER 40 years of making music, The Animals are still touring with original members John Steel and Mickey Gallagher and are coming to the area at the end of this month.

The band is best known for its number one hit, the multi-million selling House of The Rising Sun, which also saw them become only the second British band (after the Beatles) to top the American charts. Other major hits included We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and I Put A Spell On You.

It's been a busy year for The Animals, who have headlined at Gloucester Blues Festival, among others, and embarked on two major UK tours with special guest Spencer Davis, pulling in gigs in Scandinavia, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia and Holland.

Starting the evening off will be Amy Barton, a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Lancashire.

The Animals will play live at the Pokey Hole, Moira Miners' Welfare Club, on Friday, October 30. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £20 on 01283 760265.
