STEPHEN Sommers, writer-director of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, and leading lady Rachel Weisz may have departed the all-action blockbuster franchise but the rest of the cast return for this third installment which gallops from the deep catacombs of China to the snow-laden peaks of the Himalayas.
Suspended in animation as terracotta statues by a wily sorceress (Michelle Yeoh), the dastardly Dragon Emperor (Jet Li) and his 10,000-strong army wait patiently for someone to break the curse.
Young archaeologist Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) unwittingly wakes the Emperor from his slumber, unleashing the otherworldly ruler and his acolytes on an unsuspecting world.
With the fate of mankind hanging in the balance and himself to blame, Alex turns to the only people who can stop the Emperor: his gung-ho explorer father Rick (Brendan Fraser), equally feisty mother Evelyn (Maria Bello) and accident-prone uncle Jonathan (John Hannah).
