TALKED about with almost religious zeal by graphic novel fans, Watchmen is considered the gold standard of the comic book art.
And, after recreating the look and feel of the story on the big screen with attention-grabbing style, Zack Snyder seemed the perfect director to bring Watchmen to the multiplexes. An opening scene in which one of the superhero band is murdered sets the tone of violent artistry with blood and glass mingling in an orchestrated ballet of destruction.
Set in an alternate 1985 where America is on the brink of nuclear war with the USSR, this is the story of a disbanded superhero team.
When their old comrade The Comedian (Dean Morgan) is murdered, Dr Manhattan (Billy Crudup), Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) fear for their safety. But, with the world in danger, Dr Manhattan (a spectral CGI creation with God-like power who talks in riddles) needs to put his work first.
