A revolutionary new ballet idea

Friday, August 29, 2008, 07:30

BRITISH choreographer Cathy Marston has created a new full-length production for Northern Ballet Theatre based on Charles Dickens' epic novel A Tale of Two Cities.

It opens at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, on Tuesday, September 23 and runs until Saturday, September 27.

Cathy's interpretation of Dickens' literary masterpiece focuses on the relationship between the three central characters, Sydney Carton, Charles Darnay and Lucie Manette, whose lives are inextricably caught up in the French Revolution, and explores the central themes of fate, redemption, sacrifice and revenge.

Cathy is director of Bern Ballet in Switzerland. She was previously an associate artist of the Royal Opera House and toured the UK with her own company, The Cathy Marston Project. This will be the second time she has created a new production for NBT. In 2004 she choreographed Dividing Silence, a short dance piece that the Company presented as part of a triple-bill.

This is the first time NBT's artistic director, David Nixon, has invited a guest choreographer to create a new full-length production for the company.

Tickets are £10-£30, Call 0115 989 5555.
