Christmas trees are arriving into Derby's recycling centres in their thousands as people end their festive celebrations by helping the environment. Compost manager Stewart Tunnicliff said the number of pines arriving at centres in January was increasing year on year. He said: "The trees are sent off and turned into fertiliser. We have received thousands so far this year".

“COMPOST MANAGER ! green waste just gets thrown in a skip and its carted away ! how does he manage it other than say throw it in skip X. What they sell at the tip is sold so cheaply it undercuts local businesses selling the same branded product at the RRP which itself is out of order. As for pines you will find almost all christmas trees are either spruce or fir not pines.”
