COUNCILLORS in Erewash will debate whether to cut the borough's hospitality budget by 75% at a meeting tonight.

The motion, proposed by Councillor Linda McGraw, will see the money go instead to local food banks.

Labour group leader Alex Phillips said: "The so-called 'hospitality budget' goes on everything from tea and biscuits for meetings to alcoholics beverages and canapés at civic events.

"If councillors and their guests want a drink, then they should pay for it instead of getting fat at the taxpayers' expense."
