In this show, Maison Foo entice audiences to join them on a dark and shameless journey which treads that fine line between greed and necessity, raising the question, "how far will we go to make ourselves happy?" This desperate tale of slavery and greed, told with humour, intimacy and charm, uses a blend of storytelling, live music, clowning and puppetry to seek the answer.

At Pendulums Bargain Emporium, happiness and success are just one simple transaction away. The story focuses on the greedy wife of the shoemaker, who has built her empire out of the shoemaker's desperate and desolate last piece of leather. But in an empire full of objects that claim to bring happiness, can the wife ever truly be happy herself?

The new show previews for just six performances in Maison Foo's native East Midlands before heading off to the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Maison Foo first came to national attention with their highly-acclaimed sell-out show Memoirs Of A Biscuit Tin at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They also took this show on an extensive UK tour, gaining further critical acclaim and sold out notices.

Their aim is to tickle the audience's imaginations with their trademark, mischievous theatre which incorporates an enchanting mix of visual and physical theatre, puppetry and clowning.

Co-directors of Maison Foo, Bethany Sheldon and Kathryn Lowe, aim to charmingly challenge audiences by devising intriguing and inventive theatre. They also have a creative way of developing their shows. After deciding on a theme, they explore it interactively with members of the public and let the final show develop out of what emerges.

Back in November, Maison Foo temporarily took over a retail store in the city for five days to research their production by offering shoppers a retail experience with a difference. They provided customers with a song, a mime, a story, a dance or even a smile in exchange for their thoughts on retail – the buying and selling of goods.
