Much-loved ex-cop Ray Milner lived life to the full

TRIBUTES have been paid to retired police officer Ray Milner – who died earlier this month at the age of 87.

During a 25-year career with Derby Borough Police, Mr Milner was the first serving officer to be awarded an Open University Degree.

He joined the force in 1949 and moved into CID in 1964. After a stint with the Regional Crime Squad, he became a crime prevention officer before retiring in 1975.

During this time with the force, he was commended seven times.

Married to Doreen, the couple, who lived in Breadsall, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a couple of years ago.

Retired superintendent Roy Morton, who knew Mr Milner for 61 years, said: "He was a genuine chap. Nothing ever phased him and he lived life to the full."
