Pumpkins' reunion to help Mighty fund

Wednesday, July 01, 2009, 07:30

A REUNION concert by a popular city band has raised more than £1,800 to help send a four-year-old boy to America.

Lewis Mighty has neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, and has already undergone three months of gruelling chemotherapy and a seven-hour operation to remove the tumour, wrapped around the blood supply to his kidney.

But doctors were only able to get rid of 20% of the cancer and the youngster has just a 10 to 20% chance of surviving the next two years.

His parents, Jaime and Perry, of Hounslow Road, Mackworth, have decided to try to raise the £300,000 needed to send Lewis to New York for immunotherapy treatment which is not available in the UK.

On Friday, June 19, the original line-up of the Midnight Pumpkin Trucks reformed and played a one-off concert at the Rockhouse in aid of the Lewis Mighty Appeal.

Guitarist Leigh Bosworth said the night was a huge success.

He said: "We raised more than £1,800 and would like to thank the Rockhouse and all our supporters for contributing to the appeal."
