More money? It's less immigration we need
THE Labour group on Derby City Council is misguided in asking for financial assistance from the Government to help deal with the over-burdening problems of immigration ("City's cash settlement 'already takes account of trends in migration'". March 2).
Instead, it should be using whatever political influence it has to lobby the Government to cut migration. This is the root of this and many other problems the country faces.
However, it is, sadly, indicative of Labour to throw money at an issue in the hope it will go away, when in reality it is morally wrong to expect the taxpayer to foot the bill.
Labour has totally got the angle on this issue wrong. This country has a proud and long tradition of helping immigrants who genuinely fear for their lives, and long may that continue, but allowing uncontrolled "open door" immigration to continue isn't right and it isn't fair.

“I have to agree with Alan Graves. Uncontrolled immigration has led to many criminals coming to live here escaping justice elsewhere. Yes many are law abiding, many work, but too many scrounge, ignore our laws and bring their social problems here, look at issues highlighted weekly in Normanton and Peartree areas! Many of them have no intention of socialising here rather they come and try to change our laws and standards to theirs not even bothering to learn the language. Many that do work send money home taking it from our economy back to their own. There should be a curb on immigration, benefits to immigrants (self supporting for the first year). limit on money sent out of the country to 5% of yearly income, supply and pay for own interpretors at hospitals etc. and all documents supplied in English only (saves a fortune on translating/printing). Houses should go to people already waiting no queue jumping with government help. Any car they bring over should be recorded the minute it enters the country and then be registered, taxed and insured here within 12 weeks as too many are driven and parked illegally knowing they cannot be traced. I could go on but will not. Well said Alan Graves when are you up for election???”
