Daniel's coming home (with audio)

DERBY singer songwriter Daniel Angelus will showcase music from his new CD at a preview gig at The Royal next Friday.
Daniel's music captures the glam era of David Bowie and, after a successful year of gigging and recording, he's all ready for his home-town showcase.
"Things have really taken off," he says.
"I was asked to perform as part of a great show in Eastbourne/Hastings on the same bill as T'Pau, Fine Young Cannibals and Katrina and the Waves and was billed as 'the new David Bowie' and 'an upcoming star'."
Daniel performed his first show at the Victoria Inn, Derby, in late 2007 the year of his "electronic glam rebirth".
The 21-year-old says: "The first music I heard and felt love for was Queen, David Bowie and Marc Bolan. My father played this music a lot, much to my delight. Accidentally at school one day I came across a video of Freddie Mercury prancing across the stage. I watched in amazement. Since that day I dreamt about that video and how amazing it seemed and I wanted to do just what he was doing; singing and giving 100 per cent.
"But it wasn't always as simple as it sounds. My father died of heart disease when I was 14 and I needed to channel those new emotions I was feeling somewhere. That's when I started writing lyrics and poetry. It wasn't until I was 17 that I picked up a keyboard and other instruments and started experimenting with sounds.
"People were telling me my voice was great and I should do something about it. I thought they were being kind to me as friends do. However, at the age of 18, I decided I was serious. So I set my heart on recording these lyrics and music I had compiled. From 2006 to January 2008 I entered small secluded recording studios across the country to record what would eventually become my debut album. From friends dorms, to big studios in the countryside."
Daniel selected 14 tracks for his debut album The Memory Sessions.
"They were based on powerful memories and events in my life all recorded in unique sessions of emotional depth," he says.
The album got him noticed far and wide including a radio show in Michigan, USA, which took a liking to one particular song Streets.
Daniel is now ready for his second release, the EP Synthetic Heartbeats' which will feature six tracks of "glam rock electro attitude music and vocals". The EP is to be released on iTunes and Amazon to download and on CD on January 19. A free single from that EP named Goodnight Sandee is available now @ www.myspace.com/danielangelus.
"The free single is causing a great stir among old fans and bringing many new fans to the music," says Daniel.
