Feeling good about city gig

"You know, winning over the crowd and making sure everyone's got a big smile on their faces. Nothing can top that.
"We've always cared a lot about our live tours as they're purely for music's sake.
"It's what we like to do most. We're inspired by great bands like Queen who are natural entertainers and that's the standard we set for ourselves."
This isn't surprising to hear, given that the band completed 16 months of solid touring in May of last year, including an American tour of 30 shows in just six weeks.
Now they're back on home soil, what are some of the things they are looking forward to about touring in the UK again this autumn?
"Visiting cities like Derby," replies drummer Paul Stewart, without hesitation. "We're looking forward to playing our new stuff there."
The Feeling have had a hectic six months since the February release of their second album, Join With Us. As well as performances at the V Festival and T4 On The Beach, the band also supported Bon Jovi on the UK leg of their world tour, covering four of the seven dates.
Their closeness as a band is one reason behind their success, another is certainly their ability to poke fun at themselves and each other.
Dan adds: "It's not that serious, after all. None of us are saving the world. I don't care how important you think you are as an artist, none of us are as important as a nurse, doctor, or teacher. I think there are much worthier professions."
As the lyricist of the band, his songs about loneliness, insecurity and vulnerability have resonated with fans all over the world. It seems that people can relate to and find comfort in the words of their songs, making the lyrics a major factor behind the band's success.
So does Dan think it's important to bridge the gap between fun pop music and a deeper lyrical message?
"I think that if you make pop music that is lyrically very shiny and superficial it doesn't always serve a purpose," he says.
"If you listen to a classic pop song like Super Trouper, for example, the lyrics are actually quite sad. I think over the years, successful pop music has often merged a fun sound with deeper lyrics."
