Burning car rolls down hill

Friday, November 27, 2009, 08:35

TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a car was set alight and rolled down a hill.

The incident happened at 2.35am yesterday in Burnside Drive, Spondon.

A police spokesman said the Renault Clio was taken from a driveway in the road.

Two men, aged 16 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident.

The spokesman said: "Witnesses saw two youths going away from the car."

Paul Sharp, sub-officer at Nottingham Road fire station, said the blaze had started inside the Renault Clio's passenger compartment.

He said: "People in the area were out of their houses.

"It was obvious the car wasn't parked. It had been set alight, the handbrake released and it came to rest in front of a tree. It took five minutes to extinguish."
