Customers evacuated from Derby McDonald's

CUSTOMERS were evacuated from a Derby McDonald's yesterday after a smoke alarm was triggered.

Firefighters were called to the restaurant in St Peter's Street at about noon.

A fire service spokesman said a small amount of smoke was spotted on the first floor.

Customers were allowed back into the restaurant at about 12.40pm when firefighters said it was safe to return.

Martin Elliott, McDonald's operations consultant for Derby, said: "We are not sure what caused it at the moment.
