We don't want gang war

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:30

LEADING members of one of two gangs feuding in Derby are telling people not to seek revenge following the death of Kadeem Blackwood.

The 15-year-old was shot dead in the Caxton Street recreation ground, in Sunny Hill, last week.

His death has been linked to a dispute between people associated with Derby gangs A1 Crew and Browning Circle Terrorists, which over the last year is believed to have involved a number of gun-related incidents.

But Paul Smith, a leader of the BCT, and member Stephen Morgan say that a truce between the two gangs was in place at the time.

The truce was called four months ago, with the help of gang mediators brought in by the police. Now, the two men are sending out the message that there is no need for violence.

Paul, whose street-name is P Dog, said: "I've had a lot of people ring me and say, what do we do now? I've said: 'Chill – the truce is still on'.

"I've had kids crying in front of me because they want to get revenge and for a second they thought I had let them down but then they saw sense.

"We don't want to see another child killed."
