Hospital beats targets for bug

Saturday, August 02, 2008, 07:30

BURTON'S Queen's Hospital is beating a target to keep cases of superbug Clostridium Difficile to a minimum.

Latest figures from Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, which refers patients to the hospital, show that there were no new cases of the infection in May, against a target of no more than three.

In April the trust recorded two cases of the bug, which causes vomiting, against a target of no more than two.

Burton Hospitals NHS Trust must have no more than 33 cases of C Diff during the financial year 2008-09, which runs from April to March next year, in order to hit Government targets.
