Scaffolding now removed from Hippodrome

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 12:35

SCAFFOLDING has been removed from the former Hippodrome theatre in Derby.

The city council carried out emergency work to parts of the roof to replace missing tiles and unblock gutters two weeks ago. Joists were also installed to support a structural beam in the Grade II-listed building in Green Lane.

This work enabled scaffolding on the side of the building to be removed at the weekend.

The building is owned by developer Christopher Anthony but the council stepped in to do the repairs because it felt they were urgent.

The authority is also considering serving an enforcement notice on Mr Anthony to force him to repair the building, which was damaged when his contractors began carrying out work to its roof in March.

The council got a High Court injunction to stop him carrying out any more work to the building without its supervision.
