School sees 93% of pupils get a good language grade

Thursday, January 15, 2009, 10:45

FOR the first time this year, the performance tables show the percentage of pupils gaining one or more A* to C grade GCSE in a modern foreign language.

The city's independent schools came out top in the table.

A total of 93% of pupils at Derby High School, in Littleover, with 43 pupils in the year group, passed one or more higher grade language GCSE.

Ninety one per cent of pupils at Derby Grammar School, in Littleover, also achieved this, with a year group of 46 pupils.

This was followed by the 266 pupils at Littleover Community School, where 58% of them gained at least one good language GCSE.

At the other end of the scale, just eight per cent of pupils at West Park School, in Spondon, and two per cent at da Vinci Community College, in Breadsall Hilltop, gained at least one higher grade language pass.

The tables do not include classical languages, British sign languages or any English for speakers of other languages qualifications.

Releasing modern foreign languages data follows last year's decision to publish information on schools where pupils gained two or more A* to C science grades.
