Schools get good scores for tests (with full results)

TWO Derby schools scored near perfect marks in this year's National Curriculum tests.

Pupils at Griffe Field Primary School, in Heatherton, and Homefields Primary School, in Chellaston, gained 290 percentage points out of a possible 300 in the tests, commonly known as Sats.

The figure was achieved by combining the percentage of 11-year-olds gaining level four or above in English, maths and science tests taken in May.

Propping up the table in the city were Grampian Primary, in Sinfin, with 145 points, Sinfin Primary, with 153, and Pear Tree Community Junior (155).

Several county council schools gained 300 points, including Churchtown Primary and South Darley Primary in Darley Dale, St Edward's Catholic Primary, in Swadlincote and Risley Lower Grammar Primary.

Councillor Les Allen, city council cabinet member for children and young people, said he was pleased with some of the individual schools' results but overall they were down on 2008.
