Tom's set to dance through pain tonight
During his training for the quickstep, the Derbyshire actor tripped on his trouser leg, sending his professional partner, Camilla Dallerup, careering towards a wall.
But the 31-year-old managed to throw himself in the way, taking the full force of the fall and injuring his arm and shoulder.
Tom, who is originally from Parwich, visited an osteopath in London's Harley Street for treatment and will perform tonight despite still being in pain.
The former Repton School pupil is one of just three male celebrities left competing for the Strictly crown.
According to bookmaker William Hill, the Holby City star is the second favourite to win the competition, at odds of 3-1, behind rugby star Austin Healey, whose odds are 11-10.
Tom is expected to stay in the competition this weekend, with odds of 100-1 against him being voted out.
During tonight's performance of the quickstep, Tom will be showing off his fancy footwork during a solo tap routine.
The BBC1 show starts at 6pm.
This week, Tom was confirmed as one of the celebrities who will be dancing in the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.
He has signed up to take part in the live tour alongside Cherie Lunghi, who is also competing in this year's competition.
But it is unclear over who Tom's professional partner will be as former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones, who danced with Camilla in last year's competition, is also on the live tour.
The 45-show tour comes to Nottingham's Trent FM Arena on January 27 and 28 and February 9 and 10 next year.
Tom finished his filming for Holby City last month. His dramatic exit scenes will be aired at Christmas.
