Bid to find owner of neglected dog discovered dead in bin bag
The RSPCA is appealing for information after the discovery in Netherseal. The large white boxer-type dog was found behind a gate in Gorsey Lane, wrapped in a red blanket inside a bin bag on Saturday.
RSPCA officers said the female dog had wounds on its legs and rump, which resembled pressure sores.
They said her mouth was also full of ulcers, some of which had developed into holes in her gums, a process which would have taken some time.
"I am appealing to anyone who knows the owner of a large white boxer dog within this area to please contact me," said RSPCA inspector Penny Wieland.
"We do not know the cause of death but she does appear to have suffered for some time, looking at the condition she was in. The circumstances in which she was found are very strange and the person responsible chose a secluded area in the hope that the dog would not be found."
She said it was a criminal offence to allow an animal to suffer and added: "It is very distressing to find a dead animal in this condition when help could have been sought to save her.
"I would urge anyone struggling to cope with a pet, whether it be financially or due to a change in circumstances, to seek help before it is too late."
Anyone with information is urged to call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999.
