High School Musical 3: Senior Year is not out until October 22 but is already outselling Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which holds the record for advance bookings, by at least three times.
A spokesman for Derby's Odeon cinema at the Meteor Centre, Mansfield Road, said the Disney film, which is the first of the trilogy to get a big- screen release, could be the biggest smash in history.
He said: "Harry Potter sold 600 tickets in the four weeks before its release. After just two weeks, High School Musical has sold over 450 and it is the next two weeks when the most pre-bookings will be made.
"Seats are still available but numbers are dwindling."
