REMIND ME, IN A NUTSHELL, WHO IS SHE? Sarah Millican is an award-winning comedy star from the north east who has been seen on TV shows such as Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

I UNDERSTAND SHE WAS A LATE STARTER She turned her hand to stand-up as a 29-year-old divorcee. But ever since making the jump, South Shields-born Sarah has never looked back, enjoying huge success in the past few years with her honest, bright, breezy and downright funny brand of comedy.

WHAT'S HER SECRET? She says: "My material is all based on true events – like when I was at the self-service till in Asda and it kept weighing something without me putting anything on the scanner, until I realised my belly was resting on it. Honestly, you couldn't make it up!"

SHE'S WON A LOT OF AWARDS, HASN'T SHE? She's been picking up nominations and wins at the major comedy awards since 2005 when she was runner-up in the So You Think You're Funny Awards and a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards. Notable are an if.comedy award in 2008 (Best Newcomer) and the People's Choice Award For The King Or Queen Of Comedy 2011.

APART FROM STAND-UP, WHAT ELSE HAS SHE BEEN DOING? She's proved very popular on radio and TV. Her radio series, Sarah Millican's Support has cast her as an agony aunt with the audience throwing problems her way. She has also been a regular co-host of the satirical news show 7 Day Sunday on BBC Radio 5 Live and has been a panelist on ITV's Loose Women.

WHAT'S SHE DOING NOW THEN? She's currently on tour with her latest stand-up show taking a sideways look at life. Among the subjects she will be tackling is how to make a home made treadmill, the practicalities of holding an orgy and what to do when you don't like parties but do like party food.
