Pen delays Oink clean-up

Monday, July 21, 2008, 07:30

PLANS to clean up the field of Oink – Derby's famous water buffalo – have been postponed.

Oink's owner, Katherine Moore, said the clean-up, which had been due to go ahead at the weekend, had to be delayed because a holding pen had not yet been constructed in his field, in Haslams Lane, Darley Abbey.

The Evening Telegraph reported earlier this month that 15-year-old Oink had become the target of thugs, who were throwing bricks at him.

Oink has since received overwhelming support from members of the public and now has a CCTV camera installed in his field, in a bid to deter more attacks.

Volunteers are now being advised the clean-up – which will involve trimming hedges, removing weeds and filling in holes – is likely to be rescheduled for the coming weeks.

For more information about the clean-up, contact Ms Moore on 07518 785178.
