Bridge plaque back to its best

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 07:30

A PLAQUE which vandals tried to prise from an historic Derby Bridge has been repaired and replaced.

Derby City Council has spent about £1,000 repairing the plaque bearing the face of John Lombe, who pioneered the silk industry in the city.

Specialist contractors had to be brought in after Breadsall resident Michael Frawley reported it to the council when he saw the damage as he walked over the bridge in August.

A spokesman for Derby City Council said: "It has cost a lot to repair so we would urge anyone who may have seen someone trying to prise the plaque off to come forward."
