£400 reward for hero who chased two burglars
A "PUBLIC-SPIRITED" man who chased after two burglars has been awarded £400 by a judge.
Terrance Woodhouse spotted Wayne Howitt and Daniel Southgate come from a gap between two houses in Peel Street, Derby.
He followed them in his car and identified one of them after they were arrested.
Recorder Shaun Smith praised Mr Woodhouse, saying: "I would like him to receive £400 from public funds and thanks from the court for his public-spirited behaviour."
Derby Crown Court heard that the men stole two laptops, two tablet computers, a games console and some money on September 24.
One of the laptops was found in a bin near the burgled property. Footage of the two men was caught on CCTV in the area.
Howitt, 31, of Moss Street, Derby, and Southgate, 27, of no fixed address, admitted burglary.
Jailing them both for 12 months, Recorder Smith said: No doubt those students have been significantly distressed by the fact their computers were stolen."
