The Cross Keys in Belper
Here we list the bars that have so far generated most reviews and reveal what people really think about their local.
The Cross Keys in Belper has picked up many an accolade.
One satisfied customer wrote: "The pub is a lively community pub in Belper Market place with a beer garden and lots going off including quizzes and poker nights on a Sunday. Pool table and best of all it's the only pub in Belper featured in CAMRA's good beer guide. Well recommended."
The Smithfield, in Meadow Road, Derby, is one of the most reviewed pubs on ThisisDerbyshire and is a much-loved venue for the people of Derby.
One customer wrote: "Perched right on the edge of the Derwent this place is a great summer pub thats far enough out of town to stop it getting rammed. Except on match days when its standing room only. The food is also very good and very reasonably priced."
The Canal Inn in Ambergate has picked up positive reviews.
It's a particular favourite with camping enthusiasts. One wrote: "“We recently stayed at the campsite which is within the grounds of the Canal Inn, which we thought was excellent value at £10 per night. Our stay coincided with a change of landlord, and although not serving food just yet, the atmosphere and welcome we recieved from the landlord was great. My husband was particularly pleased with the choice of real ales and we are looking foward to coming back once food is up and running.”
The George and Dragon in Bridge Street, Belper, is a favourite with beer conoisseurs.
One happy customer wrote: "Consistently good / interesting regular and guest beers served by friendly barstaff. Good beer garden too! Discount of 10p off half and 20p off pint for CAMRA members all day every day.”
In January, a third Belper pub, the Holly Bush in Holly Bush Lane, won praise in January from a customer who wrote: "“Chris has really turned the Holly Bush round since taking over late last year. Great beer choice and quality, excellent home made and home cooked food now that the new kitchen is up and running. Well worth a visit!”.
The Saracens Head in Ashbourne is singled out for praise for its great food and good atmosphere.
"The pub was very busy (always a good sign). The food, service and presentation were all very good. They served good-sized portions of food, so no chance of going home hungry!” wrote one regular.
Finally, Derby's Exeter Arms in Exeter Place has won rave reviews from several satisfied customers.
One of them told ThisisDerbyshire: "I love this pub, it's a good local serving tasty food which is not overpriced and good beers. The staff are friendly and while it may feel a little bit like the pub that time forgot, it's got a brilliant down-to-earth attitude and is very welcoming. Good pies too."
