“ I wont be going back. The food was ok, but nothing special, the service was 'aloof' to say the least and it was VERY expensive. The worst thing about Darleys though is that its full of fat rich types who clearly go there because the riff-raff can't afford it. The car park is full of jags and astons, should have alerted me sooner. There are far friendlier restaurants in Derby where the food is of a higher standard. Darley's thinks its something special, but it's not. Oh, and to top it all off, I was violently ill the evening of the meal too. Might as well have thrown my £85 down the loo. ”

It was a sunday dinner, very well presented 3 course meal, very tastey and filled me nicely. very good value for money too. fab! ”

“The four of us had an excellent unrushed meal. One of my party has an egg intolerance and it was quickly and quietly explained which courses she should avoid. The service was very good. Only complaint - considering the mark-up for drinks, why did they have to charge us for the second cup of coffee?”

“I was introduced to this restaurant a few years ago by my mother. Ever since we've gone there as a family to celebrate various birthdays, anniversaries and generally happy times. I've never had a bad time / meal there and was touched at how lovely the staff were when my mother sadly died last year. I shall definitely continue to go here.”

“Probably this review will get removed, but for what it's worth here is my opinion. We took our 15 and 18 year old children for a birthday occasion. We do not eat any pork products, and nowhere on their menu they mentioned pork for the lamb dish that I'd ordered. After my meal was served I realised that it was wrapped in parma ham or some smoked pork meat, which is infused into the lamb. So it put me off. After sending it back, the manageress argued that I did not mention any dietary requirement, and that they cannot possibly list every ingredient that goes into any dish. I pointed out that it wasn't any other ingredient; but it was totally different kind of meat. She continued to argue and said she'll be charging me for the meal. I told her that if she wants to continue to argue over £20, she clearly has very little foresight. I have no problem paying, as I was already prepared to pay decent money as it was a happy occasion. However her lack of understanding of customer service, and eagerness for a petty argument and not to mention the lack of understanding of the different types of meats clearly put me off Darley's forever. Since then we've been going to Cathedral Quarter Hotel's Opulence and Masa, both have far superior food and service. Oh I should also mention that both the servers and the manageress at Darleys act as if they're too good to serve you. Hello?!”

“It's the place to go in Derby in my opinion. Some people I know have been put off as they think its too expensive but the lunch menu is very reasonable, 2 courses for £17.95. And it's set in a beautiful location”

“One of Derby's best restaurants and has been for many years. Lunch menu is really good value given it is generally quite similar to the evening version which is much more expensive. Great to sit out on the terrace overlooking the weir on warm summer evenings. Waitresses uniforms are a bit naff though, it has to be said.”

“Darleys is a fantastic restaurant and is by far the best in Derby. It’s located in scenic Darley Abbey and is adjacent to the river. The food is wonderful and is always beautifully presented. It can be expensive in the evenings, but their lunch menu is fantastic value. The staff are polite and always friendly, every meal we’ve had there has been fabulous.”

“Great restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Overlooking the river which is great in the summer as they have a terrace where you can have drinks. The food is fantastic and not too expensive, very reasonably priced lunch menu. Lots of locally source ingredients as well, one of the best restaurants in Derby.”
